They sound alike, but they are very different. The short answer: soft wash anything painted, sided or shingled — pressure wash hard surfaces like concrete and pavers.
Soft washing uses low pressure plus a cleaning solution that kills algae, mold, mildew and lichen. The solution does the work, then a gentle rinse carries it away. Because the growth is killed rather than just blasted off, results last longer and your siding, paint and shingles are never damaged.
Pressure washing uses high-pressure water to remove dirt, oil, rust and buildup from hard surfaces. It is the right tool for driveways, sidewalks, concrete and pavers — but on siding or roofs it can strip paint, damage shingles and force water behind panels.

Never pressure wash a roof. High pressure knocks the protective granules off asphalt shingles and can void the manufacturer's warranty. Roof stains and black streaks should always be soft washed.
